A reduction gearbox, also known as a speed reducer, is a key component in mechanical transmission systems. Installed between the prime mover and the working machine, it undertakes the important mission of reducing speed and increasing torque. Its working principle is based on gear transmission or worm transmission, realizing the conversion of speed and torque through the meshing of gears with different numbers of teeth.
In terms of material selection, the casing of the reduction gearbox is mostly made of cast iron, cast steel or aluminum alloy. Cast iron has low cost and good casting performance, making it suitable for bearing large loads; cast steel has high strength and is often used in heavy-duty working conditions; aluminum alloy, with the advantages of light weight and good heat dissipation, is widely used in equipment with strict weight requirements. Gears and shaft parts are usually made of high-quality alloy steel, and their hardness and wear resistance are improved through heat treatment to ensure long-term stable operation.

In terms of types, there are various types of reduction gearboxes. The cylindrical gear reduction box has a simple structure and high transmission efficiency, and is widely used in various industrial equipment; the bevel gear reduction box can realize power transmission in the vertical direction and is often used in steering mechanisms; the worm reduction box has a large transmission ratio and self-locking performance, and is suitable for occasions that require precise control and prevention of reversal; the planetary gear reduction box, with the characteristics of compact structure, large transmission ratio and strong bearing capacity, is favored in high-tech fields such as aerospace and robots.
The power range of the reduction gearbox is extremely wide, ranging from small equipment of several watts to heavy machinery of hundreds of kilowatts. Its transmission ratio ranges from as low as 3:1 to as high as 1000:1 or more, which can meet the diverse needs of different equipment for output speed and torque.
